Shophouses were both home and business premises for many where families lived upstairs and ran a business  from downstairs.

Due to the need for land, many of the shophouses were demolished to make way for high rise development.

Some areas have been protected and restored by their owners. The drawing below is an example of one of the shophouses in the Blair road area.

I meet one of the locals who after a chat about life in Singapore and NewZealand, came back a while later with a bag of tea.

Here is a photo of it hanging on his door while it cooled.
